Jacqueline Zediker - Pro Fitness Model and Figure

Age: 23
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 129 lbs
Waist: 25"
Hips: 38"
Thighs: 21"

How her did it

I thought I knew what it took to eat healthy and workout but I was completely wrong. After two years of doing the same eating pattern and the same workouts I finally decided to change. I surrendered my ego and allowed my boyfriend to have complete control of my diet and workouts.

I spent 9 months preparing for my first INBF figure show. My trainer and I were unsure how my body was going to react to dieting so we wanted to start as early as possible because getting lean early is better than not getting lean enough. I lifted 5 days a week for the entire 9 months. I then added 20-30 minutes of cardio for the last two months prior to my show.

IFBB Pro Leigh Brandt Interview

IFBB Pro says it all. Means you have achieved the ultimate Leigh Brandt did that. She started in Figure but found her home quickly winning her Bikini Pro card. Leigh also is proof that those who say Bikini competitors don't work and train hard are wrong. They do, and Leigh proves it. Her Pro card is just the beginning of many more big things.

Q: First, Leigh, I want to thank you for taking the time to do this.
A: Thank you for asking!

Q: Can you start out by telling a little about yourself.
A: I'm from Port Moody, BC Canada! I grew up here with 2 brothers A sister and my mom and dad!

Q: Before the gym were you an especially athletic person? Play any sports or
anything?
A: Yes I wrestled through out high school, my brothers were heavily into sports and I guess it rubbed off onto me! Lol

Q: What initially led you into the gym?
A: My brother! He use to take me with him when he had to watch me. When I got older I started going on my own but I wasn't consistent, I just went when I felt like it. Wasn't until 2007 that I got heavily into it!

Q: Was training something you picked up fairly easy? How long before you started to
see results?
A: In 2007 I hired a personal trainer because I wanted to have something to focus on, this is when I decided to do my first show and I started to see results within the first week of consistent training and following a strict meal plan, I loved it and feel into the grove of training very easily having a program to follow.

Q: What made you decide to compete for the first time?
A: After high school I was pretty inactive and I was working a sedentary job. I really wanted to shape up and make some changes in my life. I knew a guy that trained people for shows who owned a local nutrition store and after seeing somethings online I decided to contact him and ask him to train me for a show. And he did!

Q: Is competing something your family and friends supported?
A: For sure! When I first started out in figure no one knew what it was, but they could see my focus, commitment and passion for what I was doing and were behind me all the way! everyone came out to my shows to support me with t'shirts and signs "go Leigh" "team Leigh" it was amazing, and they came to all of my shows! If I wasn't traveling so far for shows now, they would still be there. My husband travels with me to all my shows, and I have made so many great friends in the USA that I still have a great cheer squad at the shows when I go. Its the best feeling when you walk out on stage and people are cheering you on.

Q: Was competing what you expected or did anything surprise you about it?
A: Haha well starting in figure - the suits were really high cut and had to be pulled up so high on the sides that surprised me, thought it looked ridiculous but I understand why it has to be like that! As for bikini it is everything I expected it to be but I was super surprised with my nerves Getting the best of me every time I walk out on stage... And they still do. It's crazy! You'd think I'd be use to it by now!

Q: Can you share your contest history.
A: For bikini:
*2009 Canadian nationals-1st place and overall (won pro card)
*2010 Ifbb Muscle Contest 10th place
*2010 Ifbb Sacramento Pro 6th place
Upcoming shows:
2011 Muscle Contest- March 26th
2011 Toronto Supershow June 17th

Q: What did winning your IFBB Pro card mean to you?
A: Meant everything to me! All the hard work finally paid off! It was hard to take in at first, I represented the whole country not just a team, gym, city, or province the whole country! The pressure was on! Lol it's been an amazing journey so far, so many doors opening and opportunities arising, I'm very blessed a grateful to be where I am today.

Q: As far as body parts, what do you feel is your best one?
A: My legs - quads!

Q: Do you have a part you most like to train or favorite exercise?
A: Love training my glutes, and shoulders!
Squats, good mornings, lunges, shoulder press, I do this exercise that supersets 3
shoulder exercises while laying face down on an incline Bench...really burns! With all workouts and exercises I lift really heavy weights.

Q: What is your normal training routine and diet like and how do you alter it for
contest prep?
A: I do 30 mins of cardio a day, and work a different muscle group each day. I do this both on and off season. During on season 1-2 weeks out I may start to add in full body HITT workouts. Depending on my conditioning. As for diet I have lean meats like fish, chicken, eggwhites and turkey sometimes, and bison. lots of veggies, asparagus and broccoli, salads and good carbs like yams, rice cakes, cream of wheat, oatmeal and some fruit also. I also allow myself 1-2 cheat meals a week. during prep I cut out cheats, and increase cardio to two times a day.

Q: When someone sees your physique or hears you compete for the first time, what
is the most common reaction? More positive or negative?
A: Always positive reactions... Super motivating for me and defiantly boosts my confidence, "you look amazing" "you inspire me" are the most common, and "you have crazy will power" lol

Q: When they see it that first time, what is the one question or comment you are
most sick of hearing?
A: I never get sick of hearing it, it makes me feel great knowing that all my hard work gets noticed. Inspiring people is an amazing feeling and hearing it makes me push harder.

Q: What is the biggest misconception about women who train and compete or the one
thing you wish people understood?
A: I wish people understood Bikini girls train hard too! I think the word "bikini"
is a misconception it self. The word just throws people off ... A bikini athlete? Bikini is a sport? I hear it all the time. Makes me laugh I think they should have called it something different.

Q: What is the best and worst part of training for you?
A: I love weight training and seeing changes in my physique. The worst part is the
cardio.... So boring! Happy for my iPad to watch movies! Lol

Q: Do you have any favorite competitors or any you admire?
A: I really like Ava Cowan, she's got a wicked physique and so feminine!

Q: Do you have a favorite cheat food?
A: Blizzards & my moms homemade Mac & cheese!

Q: If another woman told you she wanted to start training, what is the one piece of
advice you would most want to give her?
A: Set a goal!

Q: Is fitness modelling something that interests you?
A: Yes I love it and always jump on the opportunity when it comes up!

Q: Outside of training, any other hobbies or activities you enjoy?
A: I like to travel, I love las Vegas, shopping, hanging out with family and friends when I get the time. My life is work, eat, sleep, train, & repeat! I don't have a lot of time for other things so I like to go away somewhere warm when I get the chance and a break!

Q: Can you describe a typical day in the life of Leigh Brandt.
A: I think I just did! Haha I get up do cardio, shower, go to work, train, shower, prep meals, sleep.
I get weekends off work but I host 2 "Prep-Camps" on Saturday mornings to help
girls with their journey to stage.

Q: Describe Leigh Brandt in five words.
A: DURTI - determined, unstoppable, relentless, tenacious, irresistible.

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
A: Aside from competing I work full-time!

Q: Anything you want to take this opportunity to plug or promote?
A: Yes! Thanks so much to my incredible husband, family, friends, and my sponsors whey gourmet, legarewear, thesuitlady. Everyone here as helped me so much and are great supporters. Love you all!

Q: Leigh, again, I thank you for taking the time to do this. Any last words before
you go?
A: Thanks so much, it was a pleasure doing this interview!

Interview With Erin Moubray

Erin Moubray decided to compete just so she could say she did it. Something "scratch of her bucket list". Little did she know it would become her lifestyle. To me, Erin fits into that saying of "You never know what you are capable of". She has looked very good in her early competitive showings and is bound to keep getting better.

Q: First, Erin, I want to thank you for taking the time to do this.
A: Thanks for the interview!

Q: Can you start out by telling a little about yourself.
A: I currently live in Prince George, British Columbia. I am married with a young daughter. I work from home doing personal training and helping people with nutritional goal.

Q: Before the gym were you an especially athletic person? Play any sports or anything?
A: I was never involved in any sports growing up. I was always intimidated by sports and teams, and though only the "athletic types" could play them.

Q: What initially led you into the gym?
A: I think it was starting to read oxygen magazines and seeing the girls in there. I always admired the women in them and wanted to look like that.

Q: Was training something you picked up fairly easy? How long before you started to see results?
A: It really was. I am fortunate that I can put on muscle fairly easily. It took about 6 months of consistent training that I went from being lean...to toned and muscular.
Q: What made you decide to compete for the first time?
A: It was one of those things I wanted to say I had done. I didn't really ever think I would continue on with it...I felt it was going to be one more thing I could scratch off my bucket list. It wasn't until after that I realized this was what I wanted to do and make into my lifestyle.

Q: Is competing something your family and friends supported?
A: It really is! At first I was hesitant to tell anyone as I thought they wouldn't understand. Then came a point when people started noticing changes and I felt comfortable enough telling them what I was training for. Since then they have been behind me 100%! I am even lucky enough to have my mom making all my competition suits!

Q: Was competing what you expected or did anything surprise you about it?
A: It was so different than I had thought! I had imagined it to be very competitive (especially amongst that many women). I was surprised how open and supportive everyone is and was with each other. Backstage everyone is like a big family. We are all going through the same things...training, dieting, nerves etc....so everyone "gets" what the other is feeling and has had to do to get there.

Q: Can you share your contest history.
A: My first competition was last year with the BCABBA. I placed 5th on my bikini group. Then most recently I competed with the WBFF in Gatineau, Quebec. I placed 4th in my Fitness Model Class and 3rd in my Bikini Diva class. Next up is the WBFF Worlds in Toronto!!!

Q: As far as body parts, what do you feel is your best one?
A: My arms! They seems to need the least training and are naturally very muscular.

Q: Do you have a part you most like to train or favorite exercise?
A: I love training my shoulders and glutes! Growing my shoulders has given my frame a much more proportioned look. As for my butt I have never really had one. I love doing deadlifts and squats and seeing my rear finally take shape!

Q: What is your normal training routine and diet like and how do you alter it for contest prep?
A:
Mon- Back/ Chest
Tues-Legs/ Glutes
Wed- Arms/ Shoulders
Thurs-Back Chest
Fri-Legs/ Glutes
Sat- Cardio
6 days a week 20-30 minutes of HIIT cardio
If I can't fit in cardio i will do 3-4 rounds of Tabata Intervals. I am trying to add in 30 seconds of plyo's between my weight sets to keep my heart rate up as well.
As for eating I follow a predominately plant based diet. I don't eat any meat, eggs, or dairy. I am eating a small amount of fish occasionally. I am very consistent with what I eat. I need to eat every 2.5-3 hrs. A typical day would look like this:
6 am- 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1 scoop vegan protein power
8:30- Vegan Protein powder and water with an apple
11 am- huge green salad with cucumber, sprouts, red pepper, quinoa, seitan (vegan protein) and apple cider vinegar.
1:30- 3 oz of fish with chopped veggies and some almonds
4 pm- Vegan protein shake
6:30- Same salad as I had at 11 am
9 pm- cut up cucumber in apple cider vinegar- or a shake depending on how hungry I am!
I find keeping a consistent diet year round keeps me feeling good and not having the up's and downs of "off" and "on" season. I also never feel deprived or feeling like I am "dieting".

Q: When someone sees your physique or hears you compete for the first time, what is the most common reaction? More positive or negative?
A: Most people are very supportive. They always think that it is "bodybuilding". I have to explain the difference between the classes and different physiques. I find it is usually women who are react to it more positively. I think most women secretly wish they could do this....however they are just too afraid to try.

Q: When they see it that first time, what is the one question or comment you are most sick of hearing?
A: "Where do you get your protein from?" I hear that ALL the time. I find it interesting that people don't realize that you can gain muscle and get an incredible amount of protein from plant based sources!!!

Q: What is the biggest misconception about women who train and compete or the one thing you wish people understood?
A: I hear alot of women say they would like to lift weights...however they don't want to "bulk" up. Yet they walk around with "bulky" muffin tops and "bulky" overall bodyfat. I wish they would understand that lifting weights will only slim, shape and tone them!!!

Q: What is the best and worst part of training for you?
A: Best-the feeling I get after training....a feeling of accomplishment and energy to get me through my day. Not to mention an huge stress reliever!
Worst- NOTHING! I hate missing a single day of training. It's a bad day for me if I haven't at least done some sort of workout.

Q: Do you have any favorite competitors or any you admire?
A: I love following Jaime Eason. She is very down to earth and loves to share her training to help others!

Q: Do you have a favorite cheat food?
A: Veggie pizza, peanut M&M's, and sushi ( avocado and yam!!)

Q: If another woman told you she wanted to start training, what is the one piece of advice you would most want to give her?
A: You've got to want it more than ________. It's up to them to fill in the blank. They need to be able to identify why they want to do it and say that phrase to themselves as a reminder when things get tough.

Q: Do you think its becoming more common for women to use the weights as opposed to just doing cardio and things?
A: YES!!! I am on vacation right now and working out at a new gym. I am amazed at the number of women in the weight room!!! There were even grandmas in there lifting....I was really impressed!!!!

Q: Outside of training, any other hobbies or activities you enjoy?
A: I love to cook and entertain. I really enjoy cooking healthy meals for those who wouldn't normally eat a plant based diet. They are always surprised at how good it actually is!!

Q: Can you describe a typical day in the life of Erin Moubray.
A: Cardio, eat, weight train, eat, play with my daughter, clean the house, eat, chase my daughter, get groceries, eat, write client plans, make dinner, more playtime...then try to fall into bed at a decent hour to do it all over again the next day!!!

Q: Describe Erin Moubray in five words.
A: Determined, Structured, Motivated, Compassionate, Unique.

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
A: That I can sing opera:-)

Q: Any set plans for the near future as far as competing or anything else?
A: Next stop is competing with the WBFF at Worlds this August!

Q: Anything you want to take this opportunity to plug or promote?
A: I would love people to join my facebook page! The link is:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Erin-Moubray-WBFF-Athlete-Fitness-Nutrition/200405896669257

Q: Are you looking for sponsors? If so how can they reach you and what are they getting in Erin Moubray the athlete and competitor?
A: Yes I am! I would love to get sponsorship from a company that makes plant based supplements. I feel that with competing I can really help promote natural products and show others the great results you can get using them.
They can contact me via email at emoubray@gmail.com.

Julia Hubbard Fitness Interview

In the gym since age 15, Julia Hubbard is best described as an athletic woman of many talents. She entered her first Figure competition for "a bit of fun" and is now "hooked". And you can tell she is good at it as she is even qualified for the British Championships in 2011. Julia is clearly one of those people who when she sets her mind to achieve something, she will achieve it.

Q: First, Julia, I want to thank you for taking the time to do this.

Q: Can you start out by telling a little about yourself.
A: I'm from Stafford, but currently live in Plymouth. I've been married for for 10 years and have a very supportive husband who helps and supports me in all my sports / training / competitions.

Q: Before the gym were you an especially athletic person? Play any sports or anything?
A: I have always been sporty, I competed in Athletics, Bobsleigh and now Figure Competitions.

Q: What initially led you into the gym?
A: I first went to a gym with my athletics coach when I was 15, I had a great foundation of training from him and have always done weight training since then!

Q: Was training something you picked up fairly easy? How long before you started to see results?
A: I have always enjoyed training. I love the feeling when you lift new personal bests in the gym, it motivates you to continue to train hard. When I decided to do a figure competition, it took 3 months preparation to be ready, and 9 months to get to the British champs. Before and after pictures were really useful in monitoring my progress.

Q: What made you decide to compete for the first time?
A: I had given up competing for GB in Bobsleigh and needed a new goal to aim for, I tried a figure competition for a bit of fun, and now I'm hooked!

Q: Is competing something your family and friends supported?
A: My husband is really supportive, so I'm really lucky!

Q: Was competing what you expected or did anything surprise you about it?
A: I didn't expect to enjoy competing as much as I do. Before my first comp, I didn't wear heels, had never worn makeup and never really styled my hair... I guess I was too much of a tomboy to bother! So I have had a lot to learn, not just posing, but walking elegantly in heels, learning to present myself well with hair and makeup. I have discovered a new feminine side I never knew was there! I see being on stage as a chance to show the hard work I have put in at the Gym so I try to enjoy the moment!

Q: Can you share your contest history.
*NABBA west April 2010 2nd Trained Figure
*UKBFF Bodypower May 2010 2nd (qualified for British Champs)
*UKBFF British champs October 2010, didn't place.
*UKBFF Hercules October 2010 2nd (qualified for British Champs 2011)
*British Masters Indoor Championships 2011
Gold Medal 60m, 2nd on UK Ranking for W35 (my age group)
Gold Medal 200m 2nd on UK Ranking for W35

Q: As far as body parts, what do you feel is your best one?
A: My abs and legs are the parts I get most positive feedback on.

Q: Do you have a part you most like to train or favorite exercise?
A: I love to train legs, my favourite exercises are combining squats, hang cleans and deadlifts with Plyometrics.

Q: What is your normal training routine and diet like and how do you alter it for contest prep?
A: I train a split routine, for my weights and do track sprints 2-3 times a week.
example week
*Monday Quads
Clean / Front Squats alternating 3 x 5 each
superset Back squat & single leg squat 3 x 10
deadlift & Single leg Leg Press 3 x 10
*Tuesday Track (sprint drills and HIIT, 6-12 reps of between 30-300m depending on the time of year)
Chest
triset db Incline fly & flat bench flys & decline flyes 3x10
triset incline, flat and decline bench press 3x10
*Wednesday Back and abs (two seperate sessions)
back
pull ups wide grip 3 x max
superset Tbar rows & Straight arm pull down 3 x 10
seated cable row & Lat pull down 3x10
Abs
I choose 3-4 exercises to work in a circuit and do 3-4 sets
some of my favourite exercises include hanging leg raises, cable curls and swiss ball exercises
*Thursday Track (HIIT, 6-12 reps of between 30-300m depending on the time of year)
Hamstrings & glutes
superset lying Hamstring curls & cable kickbacks 3 x 10
superset lunges & swiss ball glute exercises 3 x 10
seated leg curl 2 x 10 and one dropset
*Friday shoulder and biceps (two separate sessions)

*Saturday Track (as Tuesday) or circuits and Triceps
triset Cable press down, rev grip press down, rope press 3x 10
triset Overhead cable press, db kickbacks, bench dips 3 x 10
*Sunday rest
Pre contest I shorted recovery between sets, incorporate more giant sets, and if I need to add cardio I might add a circuit or some interval training after a weight session, or do more walking outside.
I follow a vegetarian diet,
breakfast 7am
1/2 cup Oats with a scoop of vanilla whey protein and water.
9am
3 x eggs
11am
2x toast or 5 oatcakes and peanut butter
1pm
quorn/soya (one fillet) and 2 cups vegetables / salad
4pm
1 scoop whey protein shake (after training)
6pm
protein / meal replacement bar or shake
8pm
quorn/soya (one fillet) and 2 cups vegetables
10pm
1/2 tub cottage cheese
portions- I use cups to measure my portions and a quorn/ soya serving is about the size of my palm.
close to a competition I will lower the carbs and increase the protein. One day a week I have a treat day where I eat a few of the things I miss like chocolate, pizza and biscuits, this helps me stick to my nutrition plan during the week and also stops my body recognising its on a diet and stops the metabolism dropping.

Q: When someone sees your physique or hears you compete for the first time, what is the most common reaction? More positive or negative?
A; I get a mixed reaction, most people are surprised and think that bodybuilders must be much bigger than I am, so I explain the different classes and that each requires a different physique. I usually ignore the negative remarks!

Q: When they see it that first time, what is the one question or comment you are most sick of hearing?
A: I'm vegetarian and am constantly being told I should eat meat! Its my personal choice and I would never push my views on to others, so it annoys me a bit when I'm constantly told I'm wrong! I think a veggie diet can be extremely healthy and if done right, can work well for sports people, it just takes some planning and lots of variety.

Q: What is the biggest misconception about women who train and compete or the one thing you wish people understood?
A: Women are usually scared of weight training because they think they are going to end up too muscly. I wish women could understand the value of weight training for their health and fitness and that most women don't become bulked up that easy.... believe me, I have been training for 20 years, and its not easy to put on muscle mass!!

Q: What is the best and worst part of training for you?
A: The worst part is getting up early to train before work! But the best bit is that however you are feeling, whatever type of day you have had, I always feel better after I have hit the gym!

Q: Do you have any favorite competitors or any you admire?
A: Monica Brant is such a great example for female competitors, she has had such a great career, competing and fitness modeling and running her own business. Dorian Yates, a British Bodybuilder dominating the sport for so long just has to be admired!

Q: Do you have a favorite cheat food?
A: Chocolate and biscuits! I can live without any other foods, but a cuppa isn't the same without dunking a biscuit!

Q: If another woman told you she wanted to start training whats the one piece of advice you would most want to give her?
A: Be prepared, plan your diet and training and get organised, its too easy to slip up when you haven't planned ahead! Also, before pics and regular progress pics really help you monitor your progress. Finally, find someone you can get good advice from to help you stay focused and on track with your training.

Q: Is fitness modeling something that interests you?
A: Fitness Modeling is something I have only recently thought about. I entered the British Bodybuilding Grand Prix Fitness Model Competition and I have done a couple of shoots for experience and its definitely something I wish to pursue more of!

Q: Outside of training, any other hobbies or activities you enjoy?
A: I love traveling, reading autobiographies and am still involved with the Bobsleigh team, (I mentor the GB Youth Team) I'm also competing in Masters Athletics this year.

Q: Can you describe a typical day in the life of Julia Hubbard.
A: The great thing about my day, is that i don't have a typical day!
I work in a gym, personal train, do promotions and event management and work in a shop, so my week is so varied, I never get bored. I can be flexible with my work to fit my training in and love that every day is different. One day I'm organising a conference, the next day I'm in the Gym with a client, then i might be at a trade show promoting! Variety and Flexibility is so important to me, and at the moment I have a great balance.

Q: Describe Julia Hubbard in five words.
A: Unpredictable, Determined, Hardworking, Honest, Reliable

Q: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
A: I was selected for the British Bobsleigh Team at the age of 30. I really believe that if you have a dream, you should just go and try it, I got to 30 and realised i hadn't achieved my goals so decided to seize opportunities and just have a go, as you never know what you might find you are good at! Its never too late to try!

Q: Any set plans for the near future as far as competing or anything else?
A: My main goal this year is the UKBFF British Champs in October and the World Masters Athletics Championships in July. I'm focusing all my efforts on these two events this year.

Q: Anything you want to take this opportunity to plug or promote?
A: I'm hoping to go to the World Masters Athletics Champs in July (Sacramento) I'm looking for sponsors to help with travel costs at the moment! I am the current indoor champion and will be competing at the Outdoor champs, I believe I have realistic medal chances at the World Champs and at the World Indoors next year.
I'll be entering the Gaspari Calendar Girls competition later in the year- look out for updates on how to vote on my Facebook fanpage julia.fit
NRG Fuel are supporting me with my supplement needs, so I'd like to say thanks to them!

Q: Are you looking for sponsors? If so how can they reach you and what are they getting in Julia Hubbard the athlete and competitor?
A: I am looking for sponsors to raise the travel, accommodation, kit and entry fees for the World Masters Athletics Champs (total about £1400, any offers towards this will be considered) I am also interested in working with a clothing company for training kit.
I can be found on my facebook fanpage julia.fit, or send me a message on my FB page. I am happy to do endorsements, promotional work etc for sponsors, its a two way relationship I appreciate the help I receive, I don't take it for granted and want my sponsors to feel I am representing them well in return for their support!
I'm building my own website at the moment, will announce its launch one its up and running!

Q: Julia, again, I thank you for taking the time to do this. Any last words before you go?
A: My mottos
The harder you work... the luckier you get!
and
go the extra mile and you will stand out from the crowd

This beautiful and built young lady is Brazilian IFBB Pro Gal Ferreira.
Gal started out at the age of six in ballet, then moved into gymnastics.

She graduated in 1998 from the Federal University of Minas Gerais with a degree in Physical Education, and works as a personal trainer.

Listy Monaghan IFBB Interview

My first interview with Listy Monaghan, then Listy Allen, was one of my favorites. With things changing in her life since then, mainly the birth of her beautiful daughter Lily, I wanted to see if she was willing to do sort of an update interview. Was very happy when she said yes. I have such tremendous respect for Listy. A Pro Figure competitor, a great trainer, and now a mom. Here is a chance to learn a little more about a woman I fully expect to one day be on the Olympia stage.

Q: First Listy, thanks for taking the time for another interview.
A: Thank you for the opportunity, it's always a pleasure!

Q: For those who may not be familiar, can you tell a little about yourself.
A: I am an IFBB Figure Professional. I got my pro status at the 2009 NPC USA, winning the overall title at just age 21. I am a mother of a beautiful girl named Lily and a wife to a wonderful husband, Brandon. I am also a personal trainer, nutrition consultant and fitness model.

Q: It is a little late, but congrats on the birth of your beautiful daughter.
A: Thank you very much! Motherhood is amazing! She is a wonderful baby; always content and extremely easy to take care of. Lily is a blessing and I am so thankful for her!

Q: Obvious to anyone who follows the sport, you are always in amazing shape. Was the change in your body during the pregnancy something you had trouble adjusting to?
A: It was extremely hard to adjust. A lot of women told me, "You are going to love being pregnant! It is amazing...etc" To be honest, I hated being pregnant. I believe women that are so in tune with their bodies have a harder time being pregnant. It wasn't necessarily the weight gain that made the experience horrible but the decrease in strength, stretch marks, the all day sickness, nausea, swollen hands and feet, and not to mention, I had a mild case of gestational diabetes. Though I look back now, it was all worth it because I have a healthy and happy baby girl!

Q: Were you able to do any kind of training at all during the pregnancy?
A: I was able to workout a little bit during the first trimester, that's if I wasn't sick. But later in the pregnancy I had a hard time working out because of my wacky sugar levels. I stopped lifting around month 4 but I did try to walk 3-4 days a week.

Q: Was their ever a thought of "This isn't the right time for me" being young with a bright future in the sport?
A: Never did I think "this isn't right for me" but I wish I had more knowledge on how the business worked. I competed on my own from the get go. I made mistakes along the way, none that I regret but I learned from.

Q: Whats been the hardest part of being a new mom?
A: That is a toughie, motherhood has been so easy, thus far. I would say realizing I have a little girl that needs me to care for her 24/7 has been hard because for years it has been just me taking care of myself, so making time for myself has been more difficult.

Q: Are you able to train now, or do mom duties keep you from getting much of a workout in?
A: I am thankful "Gaga" Brandon's mom lives just 5 miles from the gym so I am able to drop Lily off for 1-2 hours and get my workouts in!

Q: Is the plan to at some point be back on stage?
A: Yes I plan to be back on stage in October, if all goes well with training and getting these stretch marks to disappear!!!

Q: Does this give you a new respect for women who are mothers and compete?
A: I have always had the utmost respect for women who have had babies and compete. I look up to the mothers that have challenged themselves and have transformed their bodies, now I hope I can be an inspiration to mothers who want to compete or change their body.
Q: Let's talk a little about the industry. Do you have any thoughts on the new physique division?
A: I like it and am very interested to see what exact physique the judges will be looking for.

Q: You seem to take a lot of pride in letting people know you are natural. Is that an accurate statement?
A: Yes, it is an accurate statement. But I do ask myself what is a natural competitor now-a- day? What one make think is unnatural another may not, it is such a controversy. I have never taken an anabolic substance but I do use over the counter supplements: Dren, VPX Meltdown, Jack3d, etc. Now some people may say I am unnatural b/c I take stimulants but others may say I am natural b/c I don't take anabolic substances. You be the judge?

Q: Do you ever feel any backlash or resentment for making it so clear you are natural?
A: Not really. I have had people say I am lying, even before I started dating my husband he thought I was unnatural, but that's okay, people can think what they want. Now don't get me wrong I have nothing against the competitors that do take anabolic substances, they still have to work their ass off to get what they want. But being a natural competitor I strongly believe you have to work harder to get the results you want.

Q: Have their been any competitors you have seen lately who impress you?
A: I've always idolized Gina Aliotti and I still do. I like Erin Stern's and Candice Keene's physique.

Q: I always ask what the biggest misconception is about competitors. This time I will ask, what is the biggest misconception about you?
A: Many just know me as the young pro figure competitor but what a lot don't realize is that I am also an expert personal trainer and athlete. I've been training people since I was 16. I know the body inside and out. I know the techniques, strategies, and possibilities of many fitness programs. My true passion is helping others achieve their goals, so I like to surround myself with research, certifications and practice to be a well-rounded trainer.

Q: When I see pictures you always seem to enjoy being in front of the camera. Which is more enjoyable to you, being on stage, or in front of a camera?
A: Because of a past bad experience with a photographer I would have to say I enjoy being on stage more! Though I have worked with a lot of great photographers I can't seem to enjoy it more than being on stage, maybe someday that will change.

Q: Obviously since the last interview the answer to this has changed. SO what is a current day in your life like now?
A: 6 am wake-up and feed Lily, back to sleep until 11 am feed her again and eat my first meal of the day. Do some cleaning or work online then get ready for the day. Run some errands, feeding Lily every 3 hours. Drop Lily off at Gaga's, workout for 2 hours. Pick her up, drive 30 minutes home, get settled in for the evening, cook dinner, do some more work online, laundry, etc. off to bed at 10:30 pm.

Q: Anything else going on that I didn't mention that you want to talk about?
A: My husband has just recently joined the Coast Guard! Thank you for your service! That being said, in the years ahead we will be doing a lot of traveling to the different coastlines, which is very exciting for me because I love to travel and go to new places! This also gives me an opportunity to compete in different shows because I typically stick to shows I live closer to and that won't break the bank. This also gives me an opportunity to expand my business and become not only a well rounded trainer but a nationwide trainer too.

Q: Finish this sentence. In five years Listy Monaghan will be__?
A: Happily married, pregnant with her 2nd child, have a career as a personal trainer and xray technician and still proudly competing!

Q: Anything you want to plug or promote?
A: My new website www.listyallen.com I provide online personal training and I am starting to blog lots of great info that is FREE!! Check it out and sign the guestbook when you get a chance! :)

Q: Listy, again, thanks so much for doing this, and congrats on the new addition to the family. Anything last words before you go?
A: Thank you, I am truly blessed to have such a beautiful and wonderful family! To all that is competing this year, good luck and have fun on that stage! Congratulations to all that have taken the first steps to committing to a health lifestyle! And for those of you working on your fitness goals, keep up the great work! Hard work does pay off and great things happen to the people that give it their all and get back up when they fall!
